Goa’s New Offshore Casino Set To Launch In February

Mon / January / 2018

With the beginning of another exciting week, we bring you the latest poker news daily for all poker aficionados. This time we have some incredible news from Goa also known as the Vegas of India. The vessel M V San Domino, popularly known as Maharajah Casino, has been permitted to anchor at the Panjim jetty by the Captain of Ports (CoP) Department. The vessel was initially leased to Golden Globe Hotels Pvt Ltd (GGHPL) for 1 year in order to commence casino operations in the state. The Golden Globe Hotels was owned by politician Gopal Kanda. Presently, the establishment is setting up to begin its operations from February 2018. This is surely adds another reason for all poker lovers to visit Goa this season.

Through rough tides

M V San Domino has a total of 3 floors that are solely devoted to casino-related operations. Since 2009, the vessel was anchored on River Mandovi without a proper casino license. The Golden Globe Hotels’ license to carry out offshore casino operations had expired few years ago. However, the license was renewed in October 2016 after GGHPL paid a whopping INR 46 crores in fines. Currently, the organization plans to utilize the license to run casino operations on the MV San Domino. This will continue until GGHPL’s own vessel is renovated.

In December, the Golden Globe Hotels filed for an application at the Bombay High Court so that a jetty is assigned for the feeder boats of MV San Domino. This was a strategic move by the company as their MV Lucky Seven vessel faced some controversies when it got trapped in a sandbar at the Miramar beach. As a result, MV Lucky Seven had to go for extensive repairs.

To high seas

In what seems to be more interesting news is that Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) granted permission to MV Lucky Seven to operate as a casino vessel and anchor for the coming 45 days at berth no. 9. This will allow the vessel to complete the remaining work for internal repairs. Now MV Lucky Seven is back in Goa after completing repairs at the Cochin dry dock. The vessel is currently anchored at MPT. However, it will remain anchored there for some time due some additional repair work, surveys & some other basic formalities.

We hope that MV Lucky Seven proves lucky for all and opens the doors to its casino really soon.
