Kalyan Chakravarthy Wins INR 64.90 Lakhs As Runner-Up In Doupai Cup Main Event

Mon / February / 2018

Our Indian poker players are riding high at international platforms this year and this time Kalyan Chakravarthy made it into the headlines of all poker news India. Recently, the Doupai Cup Main Event was hosted at the Macau Billionaire Poker room for a massive HK$3 million GTD. The event proved to be a resounding success and attracted a total of 265 entries into the field which created a total prize pool of HK$4,164,210. But it was our Indian poker pro Kalyan Chakravarthy who emerged among the top players and became the runner up barely missing the winner’s title.

After defeating all other veterans and pros in the field, Chakravarthy went to a heads-up battle against Chen Guangcheng, who became the champion after a deal was agreed upon. Apart from them, top 27 players were able to make it in the money.

An overwhelming achievement

On both Day 1 and Day 2, Kalyan emerged among the top 5 stacks and eventually gained a remarkable lead when the competition got eliminated at the final table. During the heads-up battle, he began with a prominent chip lead. However, sadly he was unable to transform his chip lead to his victory. Still, Chakravarthy managed to bank a whopping HK$790,000 (INR 64,90,506) for his runner-up finish, which was certainly one of the best wins of his career. The winner Guangcheng took home HK$850,000 as the winner of the tournament. Apart from Kalyan Chakravarthy, other Indian poker pros like Sumit Sapra (16th position), Rahul Melwani (15th position) and Alok Birewar (12th position) had also performed exceptionally at the event.

During an interview with PokerGuru, Chakravarthy commented, “It feels quite good to get good score and hope my run continues. I wanted to make a similar score and yea I am happy with this finish. I would particularly thank Sumit Sapra who was railing me on day 3 at the final table throughout and also helped me in making the deal. So that was a great support.”

He added “I was in top 5 chips right from day 1 and day 2 and finally the final table chip leader. So definitely I ran good and fortunately I never had to fight with any big stacks. So, it went smoothly till we were down to the last 3 tables.”

Regarding the heads-up battle, Kalyan Chakravarthy said “I felt this guy can be a potential threat for me and yea, as I expected, we ended up heads up against each other and he took it down. One crucial hand for me on the final table was the 3 way all in i.e. ace king vs pocket king’s vs pocket queens when I took it with my kings. (Chuckles) I guess all the good vibes from Indian players helped me out.”

We congratulate Kalyan on this great accomplishment and wish him loads more success at the table in future.
